Join Jayne Aubele, Geologist and Senior Educator, NMMNHS, for coffee, pastries, and and an informal discussion about opals.
Learn what opals actually are, how and where they are formed in the Earth, and why they look the way they do. We will explore all of the different types of opals, the history and legends of opals, and see examples of gem opals from all of the gem-opal producing countries on Earth. Cost includes a special tour of the "Wonderful World of Opals" exhibit at the Natural History Museum. This is your last opportunity to see this unique exhibit as all of the material will be returned after this coming weekend to the individual miners who loaned their best specimens to the museum for this one-of-a-kind display.
