Artemis I Mission Conclusion / Apollo 17 Anniversary

Artemis I, which launched on Nov. 15 on a 25 day mission, is headed back toward the Earth. Catch up on what has happened so far by reading through the Artemis Blog, which includes several update videos along with pictures of the Earth and moon from the Orion capsule's elongated orbit.

Orion will return to Earth on Sunday, Dec. 11 with a predicted splashdown at 10:40 a.m. MST.  Starting at 9 a.m., watch NASA TV coverage of this historic event at the museum while enjoying tabletop activities and informational handouts. This program is included with museum or planetarium admission and will end at 2 p.m.

Find out more about NASA's Artemis program and future missions during the showings of the planetarium feature "Forward to the Moon" shown each day the museum is open at 3 p.m.

Dec. 7 - 19 is the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 17 mission, which took New Mexico's own Harrison Schmitt to the moon.  The museum will also offer interactives and information sheets about Apollo 17 and show a video featuring Schmitt's memories of that expedition.
