March 30- Dino Defense 

The museum’s newest traveling exhibit, Animal Armor, is here! Have you ever wondered how some dinosaurs defended themselves from huge predators like T-Rex? If you’d like to find out, join us as we spend the day learning all about dinosaur armor!

March 31- Battle of the Bugs 

It’s a bug eat bug world out there! Insects have incredible natural armor, and we’ll be spending the day diving into these battling bugs. Join us and dig into the fascinating world of insect armor.

April 1- Mammal Mayhem 

If you’re looking for armored animals, look no further than mammals. Armadillos, hedgehogs, and porcupines are just a few fearsome examples. Spend the day with us as we examine mammals, past and present, who are living suits of armor.

April 2- Reptile Rumble 

Scales, shells, and scutes are the weapon of choice for many reptiles. We’ll be exploring armored reptiles of the past and present to see just how turtles became traveling tanks. Join us as we discover all the ways reptiles have armed themselves for survival.

April 3- Hazardous Humans: Manmade Armor 

Helmets, shields, and chainmail- oh my! Animals aren’t the only ones who have developed ways to protect themselves. Humans have been making armor for centuries. Today we’ll find the connections between manmade armor and the animal world, and maybe we’ll make some armor of our own!

Registration information

  • Price per camp: $90.00 (Members: $82.00) 
  • All camps are for children grades K-5 from 9:00am - 4:00pm 
    • Drop off begins at 8:45am 
    • Aftercare is available from 4:00pm - 5:00pm for an additional $10 per day.
  • Two age groups for each camp: K-2nd and 3rd-5th
    • 15 students max for each age group
  • The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science reserves the right to cancel camps that do not reach a minimum of six participants. A full refund will be given if a camp is canceled for this reason.
