Although summer is coming to an end, there are still many beautiful New Mexico native flowers blooming. The above wildflowers were photographed by Judy Dain, Museum Adjunct Naturalist in the Manzano Mountains and in areas around Las Vegas, New Mexico in the last few weeks. These late bloomers will be around until the first frost which, of course, is variable according to altitude and latitude in the state. In the city of Albuquerque, the average first frost date is around the middle of October.
