New Mexico Endemics
The term "endemic," in an ecological sense, refers to a species of plant or animal that naturally occurs in only one area or region.
New Mexico has at least 95 species of plants, plant subspecies or varities that are endemic only to southwestern states. There are also species of New Mexico endemic amphibians, birds, crustaceans, fish, mollusks, reptiles and arthropods.
