Professional Development Workshop for Formal and Informal Science Educators                                               

Vertebrate Paleontology in New Mexico and Beyond

 

Saturday • October 20 • 1:00pm - 4:00pm with optional Museum tour 4:00-5:00pm

 

This workshop will introduce New Mexico educators to educational activities and resources for paleontology suitable for students ranging from preK -12. Activities will focus on grades 3-8 with extensions and discussions to other grade levels and the way in which paleontologial research can be explored in diverse classroom settings and tied to national and state science standards.

 

The workshop will include suggested classroom activities, content knowledge, and materials on topics of local and global relevance. Each participant will receive: digital copy of all material provided ; snacks and other refreshments; and a professional development certificate.

 

Instructors will include Larissa R.G. DeSantis, Chair of the Soc. of Vertebrate Paleontology Edu Committee and Assistant Professor, Vanderbilt University, Bruce J. MacFadden, Distinguished Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology, Florida Museum of Natural History and Univ. of Florida, Gretchen Gurtler, Director, Mesalands Dinosaur Museum, Mesalands Community College, Tucumcari NM, and Jayne C Aubele, NM Museum of Natural History & Science.
