The Origins and Evolutionary History of Tyrannosaurus rex

Tyrannosaurs were among the largest predators to trod the earth, but they had humble origins and a long evolutionary history that culminated in Tyrannosaurus rex – the most fearsome of dinosaurs. Dr. Brusatte will talk about New Mexico’s own Bistahieversor (The Bisti Beast) and the recently described Suskityrannus. You may have read recently about the discovery of this early and very small tyrannosaur in New Mexico. Come and hear one of the co-authors of this research.

Dr. Stephen Brusatte is one of the foremost authorities on tyrannosaur dinosaurs. He has named more than 15 new species, including the tyrannosaur 'Pinocchio rex' (Qianzhousaurus) and the raptor Zhenyuanlong. He is the author of several books for children and adults, most notably the book "The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs" (2018), which was a New York Times bestseller in the USA, Sunday Times bestseller in the UK, and Globe & Mail bestseller in Canada. His work is covered often by reporters and he has appeared on several television shows including the National Geographic "T. rex Autopsy," where he was part of the team that dissected a scientifically accurate life-sized model of a T. rex.
