Celebrate Red Ribbon Week and “Send a Message” Family Event

October 23 – October 31, 2019

Come to the Museum anytime from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday October 23 through Thursday October 31 to celebrate Red Ribbon Week and take a stand against drugs

Children or students of any age, and their families, are invited to draw or write a message about drug use or substance abuse to raise awareness of the problems related to substance abuse illnesses. You are also encouraged to create an ofrenda/memorial altar for family members or friends lost to substance abuse illnesses. All of the art, messages, or memorials will be on display at the Museum to celebrate Dia de los Muertos on Nov 1-3. (NOTE: do not plan to use personal, one-of-a-kind items or photos  in your artwork or ofrenda)

All children who do the project, and their families, are invited to come to the Museum on Sunday Nov 3 (First Sunday – Free Admission for NM residents) to see the artwork, writing or ofrendas on display. At the end of the day on Nov 3 (5pm) children with projects on display can take them home with them if they wish.

Free hands-on project. Materials will be available at the Museum for your project.

Museum admission is not required to participate in the activity. Museum admission is required if participants want to visit the museum exhibits during the day on October 23 through October 31.

Free Museum Admission on Sunday Nov 3. The event on November 3 is First Sunday, museum admission is free to all New Mexico residents that day. 

 

Red Ribbon week has been celebrated since 1988 and was created by the National Family Partnership. The week symbolizes a continuing commitment to reducing the demand for illicit drugs in our communities.
