Apollo 12 Anniversary

Location:
Atrium and Space Science

November 20 is the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 12 astronaut's second day on the lunar surface. To celebrate this historic event, take part in a truly unique experience as you "walk on the Moon" (on a giant lunar floor map). The Museum is the only place in NM and one of only a few places in the country to have this giant moon map on loan from NASA. We are the first to have this geological lunar map after its appearance on the National Mall in Washington DC to celebrate the Apollo 11 Anniversary. New Mexico has long been involved in studying the geology of the Moon, using New Mexico's volcanoes as analogs to lunar volcanism.

So...come walk on the moon...this afternoon.  Hands-on activities for all ages will include virtual reality apps based on the Apollo missions.  A video loop will show highlights of the Apollo 12 mission.
