Acknowledgments

To create this exhibit, museum staff worked with scientists from the Santa Fe Institute (SFI) and media arts students from the Cultural Technology Program at New Mexico Highlands University in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.

The exhibit builds upon and synthesizes research spanning many disciplines. It began in 2006 as the education and outreach component of the SFI research project “The Emergence of Life: from Geochemistry to the Genetic Code,” with principle investigator Harold Morowitz. Funding was provided by a grant to SFI from the National Science Foundation’s “Frontiers of Integrative Biological Research” program (FIBR). Collaborating institutions include SFI, George Mason University, the University of Colorado, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Arizona State University, and the Carnegie Institution of Washington, D.C.

Scientists from those and other institutions offered invaluable support by sharing expertise; agreeing to interviews; and reviewing, correcting, and improving content. Of particular note were D. Eric Smith and Rogier Braakman, SFI; Ariel Anbar, Arizona State University; Michael Russell, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory; Penelope Boston, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology; and Michael N. Spilde, Institute of Meteoritics at the University of New Mexico.

Design and video work was created by New Mexico Highlands University students Johnny Alvarez, Arianna Andreatta, Gabe Garcia, Daniel Delgado, Josh Hix, Virginia Marrujo, Naomi Padilla, Josh Phillips, Stacy Romero, Deanna Threadgill, Rianne Trujillo, and AmeriCorps interns for the Museum, Michael Jackson and Ben Jeremiah with assistance form NMHU faculty Megan Jacobs and Kerry Loewen.
