The Bosque Education Guide

An Environmental Education Program to

Teach About the Riparian Forest of the Middle Rio Grande Valley

Bosque* is the Spanish word for "forest"; and in New Mexico it refers to the forests along rivers (called riparian areas)--especially the narrow line of cottonwoods that string through this dry state, providing habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals. This educational endeavor includes resources for learning about the ecosystem of the Middle Rio Grande Valley with background information on this river environment as well as activities to teach about this area. The website complements a printed curriculum and kit that are currently available to teachers in a free one-day workshop. The Guide is the product of a grass-roots effort by many resource managers and environmental educators in the Middle Rio Grande Basin to make information and concepts about the Bosque accessible to teachers and others. The Bosque Education Guide (BEG) provides well-grounded, well-balanced information about the bosque and issues facing the bosque.
