The ankylosaurs were heavily-armored plant-eating dinosaurs of the Cretaceous. Ankylosaur fossils (mostly armor plates) are known from the Late Cretaceous badlands of northwestern New Mexico. These stocky, quadrupedal dinosaurs were like army tanks, relying on their extensive and thick body armor for protection from meat-eating dinosaurs.
